  • A Little Lifetime Foundation (formerly ISANDS)

A Little Lifetime Foundation (formerly ISANDS) is a voluntary organisation, founded in 1983 by a group of bereaved parents whose babies died before or at birth (stillbirth) or some time after birth (neonatal death). Their website offers support and information not only for families facing or coping with this tragedy but also for anyone who comes in contact with these families. They produce and distribute a booklet called A Little Lifetime to all maternity hospitals and units in the Republic of Ireland. It can be particularly helpful to talk to someone else who has had a baby who has died. You can do so by contacting ISANDS Support Team. All the members of the Support Team are trained and are parents who themselves have had a baby who died. They can be reached from any location in the country by leaving a message on the ISANDS Support phone line. Parent Support Meetings are also organised. These are informal meetings where parents can talk to each other, facilitated by a trained member of the Support Team.

  • Aching Arms

Aching Arms is a baby loss charity run by a group of bereaved mothers who have experienced the pain and emptiness of leaving hospital without their much wanted baby. Our aim is to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss and bring some comfort to bereaved parents and their families after the loss of a baby. We provide Aching Arms Bears to hospitals for midwives to give to newly bereaved mothers. We also reach out to mothers who contact us via our website, email, Twitter and Facebook and send dedicated bears, from one mother to another. By giving the gift of a teddy bear our hope is that a bereaved mother will know she is not alone or forgotten and she may find comfort in holding the soft bear in times of distress. Every bear that we give is donated in memory of another baby's life lost too soon. With each bear will be information that connects bereaved mothers to others through larger UK charities that can give ongoing support to her and her family.

All accommodation, food, outings and activities were given with the compliments of local businesses. After many years of gruelling treatments, Alice and her family were able to step back and experience 'normal' family life. We aim to give this opportunity to all such families to 'escape' and enjoy some peace and relaxation in the beautiful Lake District. To apply for a holiday, please use the form on the website.
