Child Bereavement UK is a major provider of training to schools, helping them to better understand and meet the needs of grieving families.
All our training is based on learning from bereaved families, helping professionals to understand the needs of grieving families and children, and how appropriate support can have positive and sustained benefits for their future well-being.
We also encourage schools to reflect on their own feelings and experiences to support them in this emotionally demanding work.
We provide training delivered by skilled facilitators, combining subject knowledge and facilitation expertise, with extensive experience of working in their particular field of bereavement. We also provide fully interactive training that uses a variety of teaching methods to ensure that participants gain as much as possible from the course, develop confidence, skills and strategies in supporting bereaved children and families. All our training contributes to Certified Profession Development (CPD), supporting course materials and a CPD Certified certificate of attendance are provided.
With all our training we encourage prospective participants to consider their own experience of loss and how it might affect them during training. Generally speaking, our training is not usually suited to anyone who has suffered a recent, significant personal loss or bereavement.
“One of the best training days I’ve been on. I will ensure the school staff are aware of all this and will construct a school policy to be shared with staff and governors.”

- Established workshops as outlined in the training brochure above

- Elephant’s Tea Party – Primary and Lower Secondary school resource
Bereavement in the workplace is one of the most common factors that impacts employee’s performance in the school workplace. Even the most senior personnel can feel de-skilled in situations of bereavement, and colleagues struggle with what to say and how to behave when a staff member returns to work.
Training outside your School – We deliver a number of Schools’ Conferences around the UK annually. Our experienced facilitators also take part in many conferences and seminars as guest speakers and workshop leaders, and are able to cover a wide range of bereavement issues, from supporting parents through sudden and traumatic bereavement, to creative ways of working with bereaved children and young people.
We understand how difficult it can be to access quality bereavement- specific training in some areas of the UK. To meet this increasing demand we have successfully delivered a number of study days throughout the UK, often co-hosting a day e.g. with an organisation or multiple schools.
