Improve your understanding of the bereavement process and the challenges of end of life care in children and young people. Together with the RCPCH, we have created a communication-focused course to help you support children and their families through bereavement. Learn how to approach difficult conversations with confidence and hear first-hand about the journey of a bereaved parent. Consultant-led sessions will also cover the practicalities of ACP, consent for post mortem and child death review process.

Learning outcomes

  • developed an awareness of your personal strengths and weaknesses when talking with patients and their families about death and dying
  • discovered the importance of effective and empathetic communication during the dying process, and afterwards once the family is bereaved
  • increased you confidence in approaching difficult situations when talking to parents and/or children about death and/or bereavement
  • gained an understanding of your personal response to emotional stress and tragedy, and be able to employ techniques for dealing with this in the workplace and at home.
