Child Bereavement UK is working in Newham in conjunction with a range of partners.
At our centre in Stratford, Child Bereavement UK offers face to face support for families where a baby or child has died or where children and young people, up to the age of 25, are bereaved.
We are also able to support families who are facing bereavement, where a child of any age is not expected to live, or where children and young people are facing the bereavement of anyone significant in their lives.
Our services are provided free of charge and are offered by trained bereavement support practitioners. Please get in touch to find out more about what we offer and to discuss your needs.
Telephone Support Sessions
If accessing face to face support is difficult for you, or if you prefer, we can provide a series of booked telephone sessions for parents facing the bereavement of a baby or child of any age, and for parents/careers supporting children or young people, living anywhere in the UK, if someone close to them is not expected to live, or has died. Please contact our nationwide support and information helpline to find out more about what we can offer, and to discuss your needs.

Family Support Groups
These groups allow bereaved families to get together. Children aged 4 to 12 can meet other bereaved children with their adult carers and express their feelings through play and creative activities in facilitated groups. These peer support groups are held over 4 Saturday mornings, and include structured creative activities such as:
- felt making
The sessions cover themes such as:
- Who is there for you
- Coping with different feelings
- Going forward
The groups are run by Child Bereavement UK support practitioners, who all have professional experience in working with children and families. They are supported by a team of trained volunteers. Families tell us that attending these groups has helped them to feel less isolated in their bereavement.
Young People’s Advisory Group (YPAG)
Young People’s Advisory Group encourages bereaved young people aged 11-25 to meet in a supportive environment, and, based on their own experiences, they work together on a variety of projects, focusing on what they think helps young people who are grieving.
Parents’ Support Groups
These groups give bereaved adults, as individuals or couples, an opportunity to meet, share experiences and explore their feelings in a safe and supportive environment, facilitated by a bereavement support practitioner.
We are working with a number of Children’s Centres in Newham to provide regular support and information sessions for parents, carers or anyone who is supporting a bereaved child, or for parents who are bereaved of a child. You can drop in without an appointment, or book a time to see us. Please contact us for further information about this service and to find out when we will be at a centre near you.
Enquiries are welcome directly from families. We also welcome referrals from other agencies if a family has agreed to have their contact details passed on to us. Please do get in touch to find about more about what we offer.
